The scorpion king (2002) is an adventure and action film directed by Chuck Russell and starring Dwayne Johnson. This film is a spin-off of “The Mummy” (1999) and “The Mummy Returns” The story is about the origin of Mathayus, an Egyptian warrior, and how he became the scorpion king. It is set in the famous city of Gomorra, where an evil governor lives. He decides to end with all desert nomadic tribes. The only tribes that survive have always been enemies, but they must ally if they don’t want to die. The tribes know that their enemies depend on the visions of a clairvoyant, so they hire a murderer, Mathayus, to kill the clairvoyant. Mathayus gets into the enemy`s camp and discovers that the clairvoyant is a beautiful woman. He decides not to kill her but to kidnap her instead, waiting in the desert for the governor’s rescue. This is an entertaining but not a bright adventure film inspired in ancient Egypt. The best of the film are the desert landscapes, the photography is very beautiful. The worst of the movie is Dwayne Johnson’s acting. If you are looking for an enjoyable movie, this is it, but don’t expect to learn anything about ancient Egypt because the film is full of inaccuracies as the use of gunpowder or steel swords.
